The Princess' New Clothes

School House Rock Live! Jr.

Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. follows Tom, a nerve-wracked school teacher who is nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV, when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music, through such songs as "Just a Bill," "Interjections" and "Conjunction Junction."

Directed by Jazmin Buchman, this fun-filled children's educational musical is a pop culture phenomenon. The Emmy Award-winning 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math and more through clever, tuneful songs lit up our stage at the ACT Studio and charms and delights audiences.

It's senior year and problems are mounting for a group of high school students as they prepare for the future. Facing bullies, parents, pressure, sickness, and their own self-judgment, the characters search for ways to stand out. As they document their year, one click at a time, they come to realize life is not about what other people see -- it's about the pictures they have of themselves.

Directed by Luis Castro, this show featured high school performers who were interested in doing a play that relates more to issues they deal with.

The show had a little bit of a rocky start because it required that we rethink and adjust. The need was clear, but the logistics were tricky. Scheduling, casting, even registration presented problems. Once we got started, scheduling logistics became an issue.

It was worth the effort and the minor difficulties.

Classes and shows that are specifically of interest to our older performers are not new to ACT, but it has been several years since we have been able to offer this kind of show, so there were new considerations. We had been in our studio for only about 6 months when Covid shut us down.

Available as Video on Demand at Broadway on Demand July 16 and 17 only!
